August means the beginning of another shipping season. If anyone would like to receive a sales list for August, send an email to bettyfretz@gmail.com and let us know that you are interested. We will be taking orders until August 20th.
***UPDATE AUGUST 11***
We have uploaded a copy of our sales list, so if you would like to download it instead of receiving it in an email, Click Here
A new addition to our site is the seedling section. This section includes many of our seedlings that are up for sale. Do to the large amount of seedlings we actually have it is difficult to post everything on the website, so if there is a particular colour or style of daylily you had in mind send us an email and let us know. When you purchase a daylily seedling you are able to have it registered with a name you choose, and you will receive two fans.
Here are some pictures of some of the seedlings we have available:

We are finally enjoying peak bloom here at the gardens. It may have arrived a little late this year, but the gardens look great. Hopefully everyone who has had a chance to visit has enjoyed the scenery just as much as we do. We are, of course, open from 8am - 4pm every day except Sunday if anyone would like to take a walk through the gardens.

The end of July means that we are entering the August shipping season. We are digging a large variety of plants from the display beds and they will all be up for sale. If you saw something in particular in one of our beds that you were interested in please let us know. We would ask that any orders please be placed before August 20th.

We now have less than a week until we are visited by the American Hemerocallis Society. The number of daylily blooms in the beds are increasing every day. Last friday we had our first bloom of the season from Bob Faulkner DL. It was a real eye catcher for customers as they drove up the driveway. Other popular daylilies during our bus tour on Saturday included War Dragon, and Strawberry Velvet:

During the month of July we have a wide variety of perennials on sale. You can view them all by clicking on the 'View All Specials' link to the right. We have also received some new hostas and heucheras which can be seen by clicking 'View All New Arrivals' to the right. Orders can be placed at any time, but regular shipping will not resume until August.
Our final piece of news today is that we are on Facebook! Find us by searching for Floral and Hardy Gardens or by clicking the link below.

As July gets under way we are sorry to announce that we will not be able to host any more garden visits until after the July 20th. We are extremely busy with planning for several visits within the next couple of weeks (Some notable events include a wedding and the visit from the American Hemerocallis Society).
Feel free to schedule a visit for after the 20th, as our predictions are that the peak bloom will be around July 21st. Here's a quick look at some of the blooms today.

We would like to note that the quantities available that are listed on our site may not be entirely accurate due to purchases here at the gardens, but we are doing our best to keep everything up to date. We would also like to mention that Hort. Society members and Master Gardeners will receive 10% off.
Our final piece of news today is that we are on Facebook! Find us by searching for 'Floral and Hardy Gardens' or simply follow the link below.

Today we came back from the long weekend to find some great surprises in the display beds. There were several new blooms and there is starting to be a great deal of colour throughout the gardens. One daylily that we are particularly proud of is Celebration of Faithfulness.
Every one of the display beds seems to be showing lots of colour now, and it looks as though we will have many more blooms by next week. Not only are the daylilies looking great, but the liliums are as well. It's an excellent time to take a walk through the gardens, so if you have any spare time come for a visit.
Here are some quick pictures of some of the new blooms:

Over the past week our display beds have undergone a rapid transformation, both as we prepare for our visit from the American Hemerocallis Society, and as we begin to see more frequent blooms. We have found that the blooming season is about two weeks behind schedule, but we are beginning to see a large number of scapes with a healthy bud count, such as this cultivar of Itsy Bitsy Spider.
This year our hostas are growing extremely well. The hostas in the display beds are great examples of mature cultivars, and we invite anyone to come and wander the gardens. We try to have examples of every hosta that we sell in the beds with garden markers identifying them so that anyone can find something that they may like to purchase. This year we are refraining from digging anything from the beds until after our visit from the American Hemerocallis Society (July 15 - 17), however bring paper and a pen to write down the name of anything you like and we will attempt to find it for you among our vast inventory of potted plants. All of our hostas have been tested for Hosta Virus X.
We always enjoy having visitors who just want to wander the gardens or are looking for something in particular. It is a great time of year to visit as some of the daylilies and hostas are starting to bloom.

Today we continued with our attempt to purge the display beds of all weeds before we get any of this heavy rain that's being predicted. The best part of the day is definitely spotting the new daylily blooms. Here are a few that we came accross today:

We are finally getting some warm weather after a long month of steady rain. Everyone has been hard at work for the past few weeks weeding the beds, and getting ready for display. We are finally starting to see some blooms in the display beds. Every day seems to bring more beautiful colours, really making the beds come alive.
The great weather of the past couple weeks has also given us a chance to continue the installation of our 10 kilowatt solar array. We had begun installation back in May but were unable to continue due to the never ending rain. You can see the progress from our Tower Cam.
As we enter Summer we are continuing to take advantage of the beautiful weather, and everyone is once again working on getting the beds ready for display. Not only are we weeding, but we are also potting and pruning. There seems to be endless amounts of work to be done before Summer is in full swing.
As we approach the end of June, the greenhouses are looking completely alive again. Our greenhouses are looking nearly as good as our display beds. It really is a sign of summer when everything begins to look so alive. In the next few weeks we are expecting much more colour and lots of blooms from the daylilies. You can keep an eye on it all from any of our live cameras.
Continuing to add new daylilies and hostas daily. Check the "New Arrivals" section on the right sidebar to see them. Also added 10 two dollar daylilies to the "Specials" section.

This year the American Hemerocallis Society Region 4 will be holding its annual convention in Guelph, Ontario from July 15–17 and we are honoured that our garden will be on the tour. Consequently, we won’t be digging anything from our display beds until after the tour and there will be two availability lists – one for May delivery and one for August.
