What's Happening    Updated March 10, 2010
It's really starting to look like spring. Our greenhouse heat is on and we are franticly transplanting our new arrivals. Next week we will be in booth 1122 at Canada Blooms in Toronto. Look us up and pickup a brand new plant to put on your window sill and help push back winter even more.  Betty will be speaking on Heuchera on March 17 at 1:15 in Hall A room 102. We will have for sale Australis and Black Knight Canna Lilies, Sara Bernhardt Peony, 4 varieties of Clematis, plus more. You can also pick up your marker and Hostapedia orders.

Having an excellent day at the the Stratford Garden Festival. Turnout was incredible. Guess we all want to do our part to try to speed up spring.  If you live in Southwestern Ontario, we'd love to meet you. Location is

Stratford Rotary Complex
353 McCarthy Road
Stratford, Ontario

and it runs through Sunday.

Well, were back from Maui and rip-raring to go. We had a little additional excitement when we were awakened to tsunami sirens and evacuated to higher ground. Fortunately, the wave didn't materialize.

Off to Stratford tomorrow to set up our booth for the Stratford Garden Festival.

Catalogues have been picked up and will be in the mail soon.  If you want to download an advance copy, click here.

We're in Maui and having an absolutely fantastic time with Betty's sister and brother in law. Internet is sporatic at best so please have patience if you are awaiting a reply.  The catalogues finally went to the printer, so keep an eye on your mailbox. They should arive in the next week.
Monday: Hosta quantities and availabilities were updated. Still adding more missing photos every day.

In my many years as an optometrist,  when people asked me what I "did", I would always say I was both an Optometrist and an Optimist.

After my illness took from me the ability to practice, the "optimist" part remained. And who is more optimistic than a gardener. We all see the beauty in what is to be - in what can be. And we all take the joy of that future beauty in our minds and hearts when we plan our next wee bit of heaven in our next bit of garden.

Like many gardeners, and like all optimists, I tried to convince myself that any given zone 7 plant would LOVE it in my zone 4 raised beds. And I spent many hours with the anticipation of how beautiful something would be, only to sorrowfully collect little tombstone markers the following spring. The other obsession of mine is to save everything and make more of it. Cuttings and trimmings are hoarded and propagated - again the optimist. Years of practicing, fixing problems left their mark - I did not want other gardeners to also fall prey to the tender plant siren if they were not fully aware.

We now have a few newer passions - Hosta and Heuchera and more recently, Helleborus. So join with me in our passion for hardy plants and obsession for beauty. Did I mention we now have about 3200 registered Daylilies, plus about several thousand of our own seedlings, 450 hosta cultivars, and 138 heuchera cultivars.  We also supply 2 great lines of metal markers.
